Textiles Innovation Club

The Textiles Innovation Club—led by our fantastic coordinator, Mrs Stephanie Thomas—is BGGSs thriving hub for creativity. With about 15 members from all Year-levels, the Club meets every Thursday afternoon to practice various textile arts like hand stitching, crocheting, using the sewing machine, and knitting. These activities help members develop practical skills and innovation. The Club has been especially beneficial for students participating in the Year 10 Design Fashion Unit, providing hands-on experience and boosting their confidence with design projects.

United Nations Club

The United Nations Club at Girls Grammar allows students to explore issues of global importance through engaging in debate and exercising skills in public speaking. This year’s Model United Nations competition involved Year 10 students in discussions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its impact on Gaza. Delegates adopted their countries' perspectives and motives to participate in an open forum and general caucus components of competition, to come to a resolution on how best to restore peace in this troubled area.

Furthermore, United Nations Club participants had the opportunity to attend the annual Southport School Model United Nations Competition on the Gold Coast where delegates actively engaged in arguments centred on AI interventions and the refugee crisis across two days. Delegates represented individual countries and successfully argued to reach resolutions on both topics while fostering connections with participants across schools from Queensland. Overall, the United Nations Club has had yet another engaging and informative year and we are excited to see what 2025 beholds! Jess Warren (12H) and Scarlett Bennett (12L)
