CHESS & GAMES CLUB
Every Thursday during lunchtime, our vibrant Chess and Games Club transforms the ordinary G43 classroom into a realm of strategic battles and camaraderie. Amidst the laughter and friendly banter, decks of cards appear, adding unpredictability to the already thrilling atmosphere. Yet, it's not just about the cards—it's about the tacticians hunched over chessboards, eyes gleaming with determination, minds racing through possibilities. The clatter of chess pieces meeting the board is a symphony of intellect and strategy, each move a calculated step toward victory. In this haven of intellect, you’ll be greeted by the fabulous teachers, Mrs Harrow and Mr Van der Ros. This is a place where friendships are forged and friendly rivalries ignited. A space that forms a true tapestry of exhilaration. A club that has become our cherished Thursday tradition. Ursula Carter (10L) and Jaime Antel (10L)
CHINESE CLUB
Chinese Club is a club that allows students to connect and learn more about the Chinese culture. In this club we do fun activities like crafts, calligraphy, playing games, watching videos, and even eating some Chinese snacks! We also celebrate Chinese festivals such as Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, Lantern Festival, and many more. This year the Chinese Club held a lion dance performance for the whole School to watch and enjoy. Chinese Club also offers academic extensions to all students studying Chinese, like reading Chinese novels and ancient stories and watching Chinese movies and videos. Another way for students to extend their learning is by joining the Speaking competition, which allows students to practise their pronunciation and confidence in speaking Chinese. The Chinese Club also has a State Writing Competition, which allows students to write characters. We love going to Chinese Club because we enjoy chatting with our friends while we do fun activities. We also enjoy learning more about the Chinese culture. Many thanks to Ms Quinn for being the coordinator of the Chinese Club, finding so many fun things for us to do each week! The Chinese Club is open to anyone from all year levels who wants to understand and appreciate Chinese culture, so come along! Angel Su (8E) and Sophie Lu (8E)
