YEAR 9 PROGRAM: JOURNEYS Year 9 Marrapatta was one of the most challenging, yet enjoyable experiences I've had at Girls Grammar. It was a fun packed five days, and biking my way to each campsite was always very fulfilling as I had to overcome many physical and mental obstacles along my way—there were so many narrow and rocky trails! However, overcoming these hurdles was always satisfying and promoted my sense of personal achievement. The trails trip was a memorable journey that really allowed me to immerse myself in nature, experiencing all the surrounding wildlife and extraordinary landscapes to the fullest. My favourite memory was definitely riding up and down all those wide, smooth roads, while enjoying the cool, refreshing wind in my face and beautiful scenery. Marrapatta has definitely developed my skills, enabling me to become more confident
and responsible. Most importantly, though, the experience taught me to challenge the way I approach obstacles and to be resilient. The Year 9 program, Journeys , was definitely an essential 'journey' in helping me develop many life skills that I will be sure to use in the future. Elisia Lee (9G) The trails program was an adventure with many highs and lows. Even though it was very challenging, I think it helped me to go outside of my comfort zone and made me realise just how capable I truly am. It helped me to make more meaningful relationships and become closer with my friends and others. There were many challenges; some physical, some emotional. I think it’s important to go into camp with a positive mindset as it really does make all the difference. Eva Millsteed (9B)
The highlight of my journey was strengthening relationships with people in my class and discovering new things about people in the other class. I loved how we all came together even if we had never met some of the people we were with. My advice for another student would be to put yourself out there and let yourself be vulnerable, as you can grow more profound connections with your peers. Klara Row (9G)
The Noosa River journey was amazing; I bonded with my class more than before and made many new friends. I learned to be more patient and more cooperative in a team. My goal was to connect with nature because I don't usually spend a lot of time outside, and I think I really implemented my goal and achieved it. I loved camping and nature was the highlight. I enjoyed the canoeing, sunsets, stars and, mostly, the sand dunes. I definitely had to adapt to nature at the start, but by the end, I was quite comfortable and could have stayed for another week. I would suggest to anyone to choose canoeing and to be in a group with some new people. I now try to spend more time in nature and be more of a teammate. Ava Hediger (9O)
