FRENCH

Girls Grammar offers a friendly, fun, and fantastic approach to learning French. With diverse learning modes, hands-on, and engaging opportunities, Girls Grammar makes learning a new language an enjoyable and rewarding journey. Starting in Year 7, most of us only know how to say ‘bonjour’ but with the help of our enthusiastic classmates and teachers, now we converse in French beyond mere greetings.

Juniors don’t just sit and learn from the textbooks, instead they make cultural projects, exploring French cities, food, and celebrities. We are very grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with native speaker assistants, to improve our pronunciation and confidence when forming conversations in French. It's good to know that the French don’t pronounce every single letter of the word! In senior years, we immerse in topics such as the environment, relationships, the French education system and our future, in more depth. One of the senior highlights would be learning about French cheese etiquette and watching French films. The assessment formats tend to follow a similar structure, so that by the time students reach Year 12, they’re well prepared for their final year. Over the years, French has taught us much more than language skills, but also to appreciate the culture and its broader significance in the world. We hope, one day, we can travel to France and truly put our skills to the test! Angeline Hsu (12G) and Isabel Lutton (12E)
