HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Studying Health and Physical Education (HPE) has been a highlight of our time at BGGS. Junior and Senior HPE comprises a mix of theory and practical learning. The junior space is always full of energy and excitement, with the younger girls running around learning a variety of sports and skills. From Years 7 to 10, the theoretical topics learned vary, beginning with nutrition and basic anatomy, further expanding into biomechanics, fitness and women's health. Hopping in the pool is one of the main components of the HPE program, with students being given the opportunity to play Water Polo and participate in Lifesaving and Swimming. On the court, we also play ball sports including Netball, Basketball, Volleyball and Handball. The transition into Senior HPE has been a treasured experience, gifting us with valuable memories and teachings beyond the walls of the classroom. The rare opportunity we have to learn through real-life practice is different to any other subject at BGGS, and it provides the perfect way to get your body moving, while also being educated. The senior physical activities range from Swimming and Lifesaving to Netball, Basketball, and Aerobics. All physical activities are paired with a theoretical topic, such as motor learning, exercise physiology, and sports psychology. HPE has now become a second family for us, and the staff always make our time enjoyable. Whenever we need a teacher to help with a question, academic proposal, or even just a chat, they always make time. Through their passionate and enthusiastic approach to teaching, we always feel we are in good hands. Our love for the subject continues to grow with each lesson and we’re thankful HPE is taught so comprehensively at BGGS.
