BGGS AMBASSADORS

BGGS Ambassadors is a Service group which allows students to share their passion for their House and School with visitors to our Spring Hill campus. Whether this be introducing new families into the School, welcoming future students at their enrolment interviews, or assisting at House afternoon teas, no matter the task, the BGGS Ambassadors are always present and willing to help. Throughout my time as a BGGS Ambassador, I’ve learned new skills and connected with others in a way that has been interesting and engaging.

BGGS Ambassadors is an excellent Service group to take part in because it teaches skills such as communication, timetable management, and how to offer help to people. There are so many opportunities to connect with people such as new families, new students, or other BGGS Ambassadors. The essential skills and connections I’ve made have enabled me to grow and become more confident. I am very appreciative of the opportunity I’ve been given to be a part of a group that actively works to support others and present our School to the community with pride. Dana Jackson (8M)

WHITE BLOUSE DAY

In 2023, White Blouse Day was held on Wednesday 17 May. The event, which is recognised annually in the School calendar, promotes awareness of gynaecological cancers and raises critical funds for donation to the Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation. The Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation based in Brisbane, and also the O’Connor House Charity for 2023, that helps fund clinical research that results in kinder treatments for women with gynaecological cancer. The theme this year was embodied by the slogan, 'Cherish our Health, Now and Forever' encouraging students to remain vigilant and proactive about not only their own health, but that of their peers, friends, and families.

In the morning, O’Connor students tied white ribbons onto handrails around the School. White Ladies were drawn in chalk, with each year’s motto, for students to peruse and contribute their own ideas. During assembly, students were invited to remove their blue ties in unison, as a sign of solidarity. At lunch, students had the opportunity to add a message to the white ladies and purchase a blondie from the O’Connor’s stall—with $721 raised for the charity. Overall, the White Lady was truly symbolic of the power of positive self-care and the importance of maintaining healthy relationships with others. We would like to sincerely thank the students and staff from O’Connor House, and particularly, Head of House, Ms Boyle. With their unwavering commitment to the House charity, White Blouse Day remains an important
