JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

With a hop and a skip, we all took part in Jump Rope for Heart 2023. This amazing charity event raised money for the Heart Foundation whilst improving our fitness and skipping alongside our friends! Jump Rope for Heart also provided the opportunity for us to dress up in our bright House colours and celebrate the healthy lifestyle that we are fortunate to have. With every skip of a rope, we also knew we were helping others achieve the goal of a ‘healthy heart’. We’re sure this event will continue to be a highlight of Year 7 for many years to come, as we made so many memories jumping with our friends.

Once we were told that we could make a difference to someone’s life by skipping for the Heart Foundation, we put our game faces on and were motivated more than ever. This energy and enthusiasm clearly paid off and we were delighted to have raised $1985.40 after a total of 28 hours and 37 minutes of skipping as a cohort. Amazingly, BGGS has been raising funds and supporting the Heart Foundation annually for 27 years! This experience has helped us understand the benefits of service and the satisfaction you receive when helping others. Willa Austin (7G) and Hana Bashirzadeh (7G)

HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOLS

In total, we raised over $1500 for the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation, with an incredible $816 being raised from the Student versus Teacher Netball game. This year our small Service group has grown even more, and we are always looking for more people to join our fun group. We would like to thank our coordinators, Ms Minuzzo

Health Promoting Schools is a BGGS Service club dedicated to raising awareness about all health issues— but in particular, cervical cancer—in our society and School. Throughout the year we have run several fundraisers, with all the funds being donated to the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation. Events the club ran this year included the ‘bliss ball’ bake stalls, an Open Day salad stall, a bake sale at the BGGS/ BGS Meet and Greet, and our infamous Student versus Teacher Netball match. Congratulations must go to the Student Team who, after a tiebreaker and a no-goal from the Teacher Team's shooters, took out the win of the day! And of course, we also dressed up in our iconic carrot and pea costumes!
