QUT LAW SOCIETY HIGH SCHOOL MOOTING COMPETITION

The girls, accompanied by Debating Coordinator, Mrs Byrne, were incredible representatives of BGGS with their thoughtful manner and polished professionalism in all aspects of their presentations. We congratulate our winners, along with our five other teams that presented their moots the weekend prior. The preparation for this competition has been a significant task, but the girls embraced the opportunity to be involved in such a challenging competition and learn more about the legal profession in such a practical capacity. On Sunday 13 August, after two weekends of competition and two terms of rigorous preparation, our Year 12 Mooting team—Piper Dean (12O), Eliza Horsley (12G), and Emily Ryan (12E)—won the Grand Final Moot in the QUT Law Society High School Mooting Competition. The girls had to fight through two 90-minute moots to defeat last year’s winners. They presented the prosecuting argument for their allocated criminal case and responded to intense questioning to demonstrate their oral advocacy skills from a panel of three judges chaired by Associate Professor James Duffy.

AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS WEEK (ABW) BUSINESS SIMULATION COMPETITION The Australian Business Week (ABW) Business Simulation Competition offers students opportunities to apply their Economics learning and management skills in a virtual business environment. 17 Year 11 girls, forming four teams, participated in this year’s event together with four teams of boys from Brisbane Grammar School. They competed online for four weeks (13 October to 3 November) by running a full-service hotel in a highly competitive marketplace. To achieve the highest share price, participants had to make a wide range of decisions relating to revenue, marketing, acquisitions and customer service while balancing the need to attract business, maintain high standards and fulfill corporate social responsibilities in a changing economic environment.
