HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION

YEAR 7 HPE

B y participating in Health and Physical Education, Year 7 students have improved their physical abilities and health understanding. The physical component of HPE has been engaging and has extended student’s knowledge of different sports, strategies in gameplay, and the importance of teamwork. Lifesaving was one of my highlights this year. It proved to be challenging and foreign; however, was still extremely enjoyable and loved by the whole class. The health side of this subject has improved student’s understanding of how the body works, nutrition, and identifying when it’s ‘your choice’ in a situation. Learning about these topics has proved useful in day-to-day life as well as in class. A personal favourite of mine was learning about the digestive system and the complex procedures that are performed inside your body every time you consume food. Overall, Year 7 HPE has been a very entertaining and constructive experience for all students as they continue with their schooling, sporting, and social lives. Cate Hughes (7W)

YEAR 8 HPE

T his year HPE has taught me to step outside my comfort zone and to further acquire knowledge in theory and practical units. The theory component taught us a variety of different health science topics, such as fitness, anatomy and health in the Australian community, all of which are helpful towards daily life. For the practical unit, we were introduced to a wide range of new sports. The highlight of HPE for me was European handball. At first, it was an unfamiliar sport to me, involving both technical skills and teamwork, but by working on our skills each lesson, we were able to play thrilling and exciting games which our class thoroughly enjoyed. Although remote learning impacted our practical lessons, we were still able to learn and engage in classes through our screens. This experience truly reflected our love of Health and Physical Education, and I hope next year will be equally as enjoyable. Isabella Ho (8E)
