T hroughout the construction of the new Science Learning Centre (SLC), 28 students from Years 7 to 12 formed the SLC Student Access group. The group periodically toured the building site and enriched their understanding of the numerous stages that are involved and delivering a large construction project. This unique insight into processes of architecture, engineering, design and construction allowed girls the opportunity to question Grammar woman and Construction Manager, Ms Cherise Czislowski (2002), on the behind-the-scenes processes and gain a greater appreciation of the multitude of disciplines, foresight and teamwork that a project such as the Science Learning Center entails. From the piling and foundations to the final tour, every girl has been able to take away something from their experience in the group. Highlights of the process included the ‘name the crane’ competition, viewing the progress of the Health and Physical Education Recreation space, seeing the construction of the void and viewing the void from the roof—a space inaccessible by students normally. On behalf of the SLC Student Access Group we thank the School for this wonderful experience and the opportunities this building will continue to deliver to current and future Grammar girls.
