YEAR 9 DESIGN AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES

Y ear 9 Design and Digital Technologies has presented a broad range of topics including graphic design and illustration to produce a physical card game and coding in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. My favourite learning context was using the graphics software, as we were able to explore our own unique design ideas and techniques in a new digital environment. In design teams we negotiated the best way to combine technical and design skills. We also explored how to use and decipher a high- level programming language called JavaScript. This year has provided insight into the vast range of opportunities I can consider for my future. Johanna Conomos (9W)

YEAR 10 DESIGN AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES T his year in Design and Digital Technologies, students were required to focus on the topic ‘empathy’ to create a product designed for a stakeholder’s specific needs. With access to tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, XD and SketchUp we utilised our design and digital skills to comprise products to help others. In Semester 1, we thought closely about the needs of our users on a physical, intellectual, social and emotional level. After determining the needs of our stakeholders and the problem they were facing, we created a product that had the ability to solve a common problem around the home. Semester 2 drew on similar thinking methods to design a product or service for the user, however this had to be completed in the model of a circular economy. We designed a service to help limit fast fashion and waste created from the industry. This task also involved developing a website using HTML. The projects completed this year provided valuable insight into the career opportunities surrounding technology. Georgia Molland (10R)
