PINK STUMPS DAY

O n Wednesday 20 February, Girls Grammar celebrated Pink Stumps Day at Rangakarra Recreational and Environmental Education Centre. Raising awareness for the McGrath Foundation and the work they do in supporting women and men suffering from breast cancer, girls donned pink ribbons, hats, scarves, socks and shoes.

Supporters also embraced the pink theme, bringing their own colour and energy to the afternoon, with the Beanland Bear also making a surprise appearance. A wonderful afternoon tea was supplied by the Mothers Group and the canteen was staffed by the always generous members of the Girls Grammar community, without whom an event such as this would not be a success. WHITE BLOUSE DAY

N ow in its fifth year, White Blouse Day supports the O’Connor House Charity, Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation. The Cherish Foundation funds research for better diagnosis and treatments for women diagnosed with gynaecological cancers. The need for improved methods to treat these patients was an important message of the day and students learned that not all testing techniques are viable for every type of gynaecological cancer. As Service Captains we reminded students that it is important, as young women, to be aware of our bodies and seek advice from trusted adults if something has changed or is not quite right. During the day students wrote words of encouragement and solidarity on white paper dolls, which were arranged in an installation on the Pool Lawn at lunchtime.
