GIRLS GRAMMAR AMBASSADORS
G irls Grammar Student Ambassadors are responsible for presenting the School to visitors, prospective families and future Grammar girls. Ambassadors provide assistance at events for future Grammar girls and share their Girls Grammar experience with those who visit the School. This year, I had the privilege of being a Student Ambassador and have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at school events. In particular, I enjoyed talking with incoming Grammar girls when they visited the School. Over the two years that I have been involved in the program, I have developed friendships across all Year levels and gained insight into the world outside Girls Grammar. Sophie McLeod (10M)
T he Brisbane Girls Grammar School Second Chance Committee strives to support women experiencing homelessness in the community and seeks to raise awareness for women facing hardships. The Committee holds weekly meetings and hosts fundraising events such as the International Women’s Day sausage sizzle, hot chocolate stalls, a toiletry drive and the annual Christmas Giving Tree. Additionally, this year, we were visited by two Second Chance members, Ms Kathleen Noonan and Mrs Marjorie Morton, as well as Ms Sandra Angus, the Coordinator of Bahloo Women’s Youth Shelter, which supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women experiencing homelessness. These visits provided insights into the reality women face in overcoming hardship and the support we can provide as a community. Eva Seet (11B) SECOND CHANCE COMMITTEE
F ounded in 1919 by Eglantyne Jebb, Save the Children is one of the world’s leading independent charities for children, striving to bring basic needs and necessities to children around the world. Through their work, they aim to bring health, education, protection and support to children and families across 117 countries. The School’s Save the Children Club aims to support these efforts. This year, more than $1174 was raised from our bake stall, the annual Easter raffle, our Open Day ‘Ring Toss’ stall and the much-anticipated stand-down packs sold in Term 3. Being involved in Save the Children has been a great opportunity to not only raise funds for a cause which we are extremely passionate about but to also raise awareness for such an important issue.
