SERVICE

BRISBANE CENTRAL STATE SCHOOL HOMEWORK CLUB T his year for me, Monday presented an exciting opportunity to assist at Brisbane Central State School as part of the Homework Club. This allowed me to create connections with people in my local community and gain experience in primary school education. Each Monday afternoon, approximately 12 Grammar girls walked to Brisbane Central State School and applied their literacy and mathematics skills to assist students with reading books and completing their homework. For many of these children, English is their second language and despite some communication difficulties an immediate connection was developed through their eagerness to learn and the fun they had developing listening and comprehensions skills. Being involved in this service activity has allowed me to share my knowledge and help others in the local community. I have also enjoyed witnessing the excitement of students when the Grammar girls walked into their library. Darcy Cooke (11W)

G rammar Goes Green is a fun and educational initiative that occurs throughout the School year. In Terms 1, 2 and 4, an enthusiastic group of girls visited the School’s Rangakarra Recreational and Environmental Education Centre to plant new garden beds and rejuvenate previous rehabilitative plantings. Grammar Goes Green allows students to learn more about sustainability and species of native flora and fauna. Gemma Grattan (12O) GRAMMAR GOES GREEN
