From the Sports Captains
O ur aim for the Brisbane Girls Grammar School sporting community this year was to significantly increase the level of support for our athletes across all aspects of sport at the School. This lead to the creation of our motto, ‘Ignite,’ to inspire girls to have determination and persistence on the field, and spread spirit among their Grammar sisters off the field. BGGS sport has played an enormous part in both of our lives, and in our final year, we wanted to give back to a community that has given so much to us while at Girls Grammar. This year, the 111th year of the Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sport Association (QGSSSA), was yet another successful year for Brisbane Girls Grammar School. All girls embraced the ‘Ignite’ motto, with countless successes including placing second at QGSSSA Athletics, many personal bests at QGSSSA Cross Country,
and a record number of supporters at the Head of the River, hosted by Girls Grammar. These successes evidently demonstrated the team of strong, united, spirited and passionate Grammar sisters and their love for sport. We are incredibly grateful to all girls who participated, competed and supported sports at BGGS this year. Thank you to Ms Euler, Ms Papas, Ms Duffy, and our coordinators and coaches for their endless efforts and encouragement throughout the year. Without their guidance, this year would not have been so rewarding. With the numerous lessons of teamwork, persistence, and determination Brisbane Girls Grammar School has taught us, we cannot wait to see
the next chapter in our sporting career unfolds. Madeline Clark (12E) and Kirsten Viljoen (12E)
Artistic Gymnastics
A s Artistic Gymnastics Captains, we have led a talented and dedicated group of girls through a successful year of competition. This year we had multiple outstanding performances, returning home with three premierships and two individual awards. There were many remarkable achievements at the QGSSSA competition held at Clayfield College in April. Premierships went to A Grade (i), B Grade (i), and Year 7 (ii). This was the first time Girls Grammar has won the A Grade premiership since the division was created 15 years ago. Standout performances included Anshika Singh (7R) (Yr 7ii) receiving a perfect 10 for her vault, and Alice Zhu (8G) and Maya Sudrikku (9R), tying for the highest score on bars in the Open category. We commend our gymnasts for working so diligently over the 14-week season which included trials, training and a successful mock competition in March at the YMCA, Bowen Hills. We could not have wished for a more committed and enthusiastic group of girls and coaches for our last
Artistic Gymnastics season at Girls Grammar. Erin Christmas (12M) and Georgia Irving (11E) CAPTAIN AND CAPTAIN ELECT
