DESIGN

The workshop provided girls with access to amazing prototyping tools including the laser cutter, 3D printer and sticker-cutting machine. Open Day 2018 was a highlight with the Design Club helping future Grammar girls design and make fashionable earrings using the laser cutter. In Term 4, we had the opportunity to create awards and design elements for the International Young Leaders Forum being held at Brisbane Grammar Girls Grammar School in November. Julie Lu (9G)

Design Club has had an exciting year with more than 30 girls participating in design-based learning projects. We learned that design is human-centred and focused on this before commencing a new project. Girls created and designed their own projects ranging from industrial, fashion, architectural, product and graphic design. Students demonstrated an enthusiastic approach in the workshop, with Mr Skillen supporting the girls’ progress. We researched projects, sketched out solutions, calculated the amount and type of materials necessary, wrote down specifications such as size and quantity of components and technical drawings.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

photographer has a unique aesthetic. For example, where they take the photo, or what colour overlays they select. Then there is the technical aspect. For instance, whether they do portraits or landscapes, or what camera and lenses they use. The thing I like about photography is that you never know when you will develop your own aesthetic and techniques, it just happens. Photography is a fantastic opportunity to share your own perspectives, showcase the world and see other people viewpoints. Alexandra Fernandez (7H)

I did not comprehend the full scope and opportunities of photography until I joined the Digital Photography Club. During my time in Digital Photography Club, I realised photography is more than simply taking pictures. There are many things to consider when taking a photo: should I zoom in or out?; does the rule of thirds work in this setting?; how will the lighting affect my photo? As I dug deeper into the world of photography, I became more intrigued by what sets one photographer apart from another. I started to explore this question and learned that every
