CHINESE

A highlight of the year was going on excursion to the Buddhist temple. Year 8 and 9 students marvelled at the amazing temples that immersed you into the Chinese culture. We participated in calligraphy, learned how to meditate and learnt about Buddhism. The day finished with a delicious vegetarian lunch. Samantha Dunk (9H)

Chinese at Girls Grammar integrates storytelling, calligraphy, native speaker sessions and culture. To learn how to read, write and speak Chinese in an entertaining and engaging way, stories are told to keep each lesson captivating. A native speaker attends class each week to ensure girls are learning the correct pronunciation, to help improve our language skills.

JAPANESE

Year 10 Japanese was one of my favourite subjects this year, as we were given the opportunity to experience and learn a vastly different culture and language. The subject has been challenging but rewarding and I enjoyed expanding my vocabulary and knowledge of the Japanese culture. In Term 2, the School welcomed exchange students from Affiliate School, Mie High School, in Japan. The students were very friendly and it provided us the opportunity to converse with them and improve our Japanese. In Term 3, we studied travel in Japan I particularly enjoyed this unit as we researched and wrote a short essay on two of our favourite cities in Japan. Japanese has given me the opportunity to broaden my understanding of other cultures and improve my communication skills, which are both very useful skills in this increasingly globalised world.
