YEAR 7 AND 8 DRAMA PRODUCTION The Year 7 and 8 Drama Production— Stories in the Dark was staged in the Gehrmann Theatre from Friday 31 August to Saturday 1 September 2018. Brisbane-based theatre-maker, Thomas Larkin, re-imagined the play in a contemporary light, embracing the theatricality of storytelling within Debra Oswald’s powerful script. Stories in the Dark blended the magic and earthly wisdom of folk tales with the harsh reality of a nation in conflict and the struggle to survive in a broken, unfamiliar world. In a post-apocalyptic, war-torn city, 12 year-old Tash found herself separated from her family. When she sought refuge in an abandoned warehouse she met Anna—a feisty and defiant 16 year-old on a mission to find her mother. Together they negotiated the destroyed city and its people to scavenge for food and water and search for their displaced families. At night, an unlikely bond formed as Anna tells Tash folk stories to distract them from the horrors lurking outside—and so began a journey into the shifting, shimmering world of ogres, princes, singing bones, foolish lads and wolf mothers.
