MATH TEAM CHALLENGE

In Term 2, two Junior teams and two Intermediate teams comprising students from Years 7 to 10 were selected to represent the School in the Maths Team Challenge at Indooroopilly State High School. Groups of five students worked together to solve interesting, yet unusual problems. On the day of the event, everyone was super excited to face the challenges which required us to look at maths problems in different ways. Teamwork and effective communication skills were crucial. The event involved trials and practice sessions which were also fun and prepared us for the challenging day. Overall, the Maths Team Challenge was an enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone who attended. Sherry Jiang (7M)

COMPUTATIONAL AND ALGORITHMIC THINKING COMPETITION The Computational and Algorithmic Thinking competition, hosted by the Australian Mathematics Trust, was a rewarding and engaging experience for everyone who participated. This one-hour problem-solving test was designed to identify computer programming potential through nine different questions of varying complexity that required participants to develop algorithms and apply them to data. We were challenged by problems that required us to think logically, perform procedures and identify and apply several different types of algorithms. It was very enjoyable experience, that allowed us to demonstrate skills that we would not normally learn in class and all girls who participated are grateful for this amazing opportunity.
