SWIMMING The BGGS swimming team dived into this year’s season head first. Wow did we make a splash! Before the commencement of Term I, the team came together in the holidays for the annual Swim Camp. With two full days of swimming, intense dodgeball games and tons of fun, everyone was feeling fit and fast for the season. At camp we welcomed two new coaches to the team — former Australian swimming team members and Commonwealth Games representatives Jade Edmistone and Katie Goldman. Their endless knowledge helped all swimmers to achieve some amazing results. Interhouse Swimming saw our swimmers fly down the pool with numerous records broken throughout the day. The final race of the day – the final of the 50 metre Freestyle Championship – was incredibly exciting. In the fastest final we have seen all 10 competitors swam times that were sub-30 seconds. Additionally, both first and second placed swimmers broke the previous record. As a result of this final Eliza King (10E) was named the School Swimming Champion. After some fun Friday night carnivals, our infectious team spirit, some impressive dance moves and our famous cookies, we were ready for Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA) on 9 March 2016. From the Year 7s experiencing their first ever QG to the Year 12s living up their last, every single swimmer gave it everything they had. Fueled by the mass of #blunity in the stands, the team was able to place fourth overall. This was an amazing improvement on last year’s placing! QG was the perfect finale to a truly memorable swimming season. NINA DONALDSON (12G) AND SARAH LAWLOR (12B) CAPTAINS
