YEAR 10 JOURNEYS MARY VALLEY MULTI My experience on the Mary Valley camp at Marrapatta was incredibly exciting, unique and challenging. I found that the camp provided me with both physical and mental challenges that required me to develop my skills in not only teamwork, resilience, problem-solving and independence, but also physical stamina and skill. These skills were obtained through the challenging hike, high ropes course, camping out, and the night spent in a hammock. I found that through the encouragement of my friends and my own persistence, I was able to make the most of camp and enjoy every aspect of the challenge. My final experience at Marrapatta has provided me with so many invaluable skills that will continue to guide me throughout my next two years as a senior student at the School. Year 10 camp is truly an experience that all students can embrace and thoroughly enjoy.

NOOSA TRAILS RIDING The trails journey I went on this year starting at Marrapatta, was just that, a journey. It was definitely one of the best experiences I have ever had and I felt that the previous years at Marrapatta prepared me for this year. We rode over a variety of landscapes over the course of 5 days and my bike riding skills certainly improved. I felt that I grew as a person, learning a lot about myself as well as all the other great people that made my experience much better. Working both as a team and individually at times, we learnt to be patient, thoughtful, resilient and selfless. Even our cooking skills improved as my friend and I mastered the art of cooking pancakes on a trangia.

NOOSA RIVER The Noosa River journey incorporated a variety of physical, mental and emotional challenges, including insightful activities to motivate us. Not only did these highlight our own strengths and allow us to improve our weaknesses, but they also revealed everyone’s capabilities, which strengthened our bond as a group. I particularly enjoyed how we navigated both along creeks that ran through areas of forest, and vast bodies of water where land was a distant but achievable goal. Although the weather during our early morning hike to the Cooloola Sandpatch was not ideal, it did not scathe my joy and triumph upon reaching the beautiful site. My final adventure with Marrapatta was definitely the best out of all my camp experiences. It has taught me to be caring and open about others and myself, and to persevere, whether it be in the river of my upcoming senior years or my ocean of a future.
