YEAR 9 GEOGRAPHY
With over seven billion people living on this planet and over 196 countries in which these people inhabit, it is vital that we understand how this remarkable planet functions every day. Year 9 Geography has provided us with the opportunity to explore and become informed citizens of the world observing the events that are happening around us as well as being able to participate in excursions such as visiting the Port of Brisbane. Learning about the world’s biomes and food insecurity as well as geographical interconnections has allowed us to recognise and appreciate the complexities and problems of our world. As citizens of this earth, we need to look after our environments, understand them and be able preserve and appreciate our achievements. The knowledge that we have gained this year has really helped us to feel more like citizens and participants of this world and helped us to see outside our little bubble at school.

YEAR 10 GEOGRAPHY Growing up in an affluent, safe and highly developed country, it is easy to remain oblivious to the dire plight of many of the world’s peoples. My learning experiences in Year 10 Geography have slowly but surely opened my eyes and challenged me to think about the world in a different light and start asking the bigger questions. What does it mean to experience wellbeing? Are our experiences of wellbeing the same around the world? What are the complex challenges that affect development and living standards experienced by women and children around the world? These are important questions that will shape how I may contribute to a connected global community beyond the classroom.
