YEAR 10 SCIENCE ABIGAIL ASHFORD (10R)

Science this year has been about exploring our options for senior subjects, with a taste of Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Astronomy. Physics took us into exploring the phenomenon of Solar Motion, a unit where we designed and built our own solar cars. We then got to complete an EEI (Extended Experimental Investigation), where we tested and evaluated our designs as we added mass, wind resistance and covered our solar panels. Biology taught us the importance of A Healthy Environment in two sections - Genetics and Evolution. In the Genetics section we learnt about DNA, chromosomes and how they are passed through generations. In Evolution, we explored Charles Darwin’s famous theory of natural selection.

Chemistry – Ah, the Element of Surprise - was about expanding on our knowledge of the patterns in the periodic table. We explored bonding, chemical reactions and ended the term with another EEI, where we had a hands-on experience, testing the effect of varying the concentration of acids on the rate of reaction with aspirin tablets. I think every girl could confidently say that Science has brought something new to the table. We’ve deepened our previous understanding, and combined it with snapshots of what to expect into Years 11 and 12.
