As I had not learnt about film techniques before I was quite fascinated with the concept and I realised how much effort it was to film a movie. Through studying Bladerunner I also learnt about the film noir style of movie which I had not known about before. It was quite fascinating and the movie was interesting. CINDY TRUONG (10O) What I enjoyed most about English this year was the opportunity to study Shakespeare. Shakespeare has always been a great love of mine and I loved how we got to incorporate playwrights and drama into English. So I was very excited this year to been given the chance to study more traditional playwrights. FREYA MARTIN (10M) English Extension, while challenging me unlike any other subject, opened my eyes to my own capabilities. Through analysing texts and language in a way I have never before, my learning capability was literally ‘extended’ each and every lesson. English Extension has had a profound positive impact on my last year of education; I have no doubt the knowledge I have gained through this subject will transcend my formative schooling years. Despite initial trepidation towards undertaking an entirely new subject, I believe English Extension has liberated me and provided a platform for personal growth that I had not previously envisaged. GABRIELLA ELGOOD (12O)

I was apprehensive to begin English Extension at the beginning of Year 12, but looking back now, I couldn’t imagine not having done it. The freedom we are given in class and the direction we took with our assignments created a space for me to really challenge myself, take risks and develop as a writer. Ultimately, I think English Extension has made me a better student across all my subjects. SOPHIE MCKENDRY (12H) I felt that learning to ‘wring the sponge’ when we analyse something was useful when approaching assessment in not only English, but also a range of my other subjects. I feel English has pushed us all to expand on our vocabulary. JESSICA WING (12H) This year in English we have learnt a multitude of valuable language skills. From the manipulation of text and how our understandings of poetry are drawn from semantics, to using emotive vocabulary when persuading an audience on ethical issues, and finally to recognising and understanding how our immediate reactions regarding written and visual work are manipulated via ‘reader positioning’. These have been significant aspects of our English studies, and will transcend beyond high school, as we embark on our

journey into the wider world. BRONTE JACKSON (12H)

The most enjoyable part of English this year for me was listening to my class’s speeches on ethical issues. It was really interesting learning about thought-provoking moral issues that are

prevalent in today’s society. BETH NEEDHAM (12E)
