2015 School Magazine
SAVE THE CHILDREN CAITLIN WILSON (11H) 2015 has been a successful year for Save the Children at Girls Grammar. With the support and help from students across all year levels, the Save the Children club has successfully raised funds for the Nepal earthquake and for children needing protection. The aim this year was to raise awareness and ultimately change the lives of children who are deprived of basic necessities and essentials we take for granted on a daily basis. Currently, the horrible truth is that, every minute, a child dies from a contaminated water- related disease and more than 2.6 million child deaths each year are caused by malnutrition. Throughout the year it has been rewarding to observe students from different year levels interacting with each other through our projects. We were also fortunate to welcome a guest speaker from the Save the Children organisation where girls were able to learn more about the organisation. In Term I we held an Easter raffle which raised around $400, followed by a bake stall in Term II that raised just under $500.
Save the Children co-ordinators Ms Bryant and Mme Anderson, along with Lydia and myself, hoped to not only raise money for different charities but, more importantly, get more people involved, interacting with one another as well as gaining a greater understanding of the work Save the Children does to provide for children in need.

WORLD VISION CHARLOTTE ROBINSON (7B) AND HANNAH PEARSON (7B)
This year, the Year 7 students have sponsored a World Vision child named Gainshi and during the year each House Group has raised funds to contribute to support her. The proceeds will be sent to World Vision to help provide Gainshi with schoolbooks, food, clothes, and other basic everyday items. All the students had fun planning and executing their fundraising ideas during House Group, and each stall was different. Beanland made a lolly stall, Griffith made cupcakes, and Woolcock had a bake stall. Each House Group had to plan where they were going to set up their stall, when they should sell their food, what types of food would be most popular, and what their stall was going to look like. This was extremely enjoyable to plan and execute, and we can’t wait to see how our contribution changed Gainshi’s life. We will be sending letters to Gainshi soon and also contributing funds to the World Vision Gift Programme.
