SYDNEY DRAMA TOUR KIRSTY THATCHER (12M) Over the September holidays, twenty senior students, accompanied by three teachers, embarked on the Sydney Drama Tour, where for four days we were immersed in Sydney’s best theatre, workshops, and scenery. Over the course of the tour, we completed two workshops at NIDA and the Australian Theatre for Young People, and were lucky enough to see four distinct and highly engaging performances.

Guided by esteemed teachers, these intensive workshops pushed us out of our comfort zones, and provided us with the opportunity to work freely in styles very different to that which we were used to. The performances were another highlight of the tour. Ranging from dance and contemporary theatre through to classic pieces such as Arms and the Man , they enabled us to broaden our knowledge of theatre. As Year 12 students and with our Drama studies at Girls Grammar coming to an end, the tour was especially valuable as we were able to connect with the younger girls, as well as bond with our cohort.

FELGATES ANNABELLE KHOO (7W)

Felgates Drama Club is a great place to express your love for performance, meet new people and boost self-confidence. In Semester One, Miss Johnston quickly engaged us with a mysterious story about a woman in a blue dress, and a sixteen-year-old girl named Bonnie, who slowly realises her father Bluebeard has been keeping a dark secret from her. We spent the semester creating role plays, sound scapes and movement pieces unpacking the puzzling tale. Feeling a little more skilled and professional, in Semester Two we produced a play adapted by Mrs Edwards called Summertime Blues — which had a thrilling ending! The play taught us the importance of being happy with who we are and to seize the moment, because opportunities don’t come twice. When we were feeling impatient like Bonnie, or self-conscious like Bluebell Jones, Felgates was always something to look forward to!
