2014 School Magazine
FROM THE SPORTS CAPTAINS JENNA LAWLOR (12B) AND KATHERINE MCCREADY (12E)
thirty-three premierships this year and eighty-five out of 160 teams placed in the top three of their competitions. The immeasurable success of playing sport came in the overwhelming enjoyment in getting to play, and the pride we have in representing our School. We would like to thank the many teachers and coaches who have made our role as School Sports Captains such a valuable and rewarding experience. Good luck to the School Sports Captains in 2015 and in the years ahead. We hope you have as much fun as we did and that you lead with passion, dedication and determination. ■
The reason Girls Grammar athletes continue to excel in an increasingly wide range of sports is not only a result of their dedication, perseverance and determination; it is because when the whole School supports them, they are encouraged to go above and beyond . To achieve things that they never thought possible. That is why, this year, we introduced the motto Grammarnation Domination . Uniting each team with their passion for sport, not only with a shared mission to dominate on the court or in the pool, but to take it further and to dominate in support and school spirit. We believe that by instilling this motto we encouraged all girls to take pride in being part of the support and energy that comes when teams unite under one powerful message. Sport has played an enormous role in our lives at BGGS. Over the past five years, sport at Girls Grammar has enabled us to grow both physically and mentally. As both players and leaders, it has developed in us a sense of commitment and confidence and it has allowed us to cultivate lasting friendships. This year we learned how much of a difference supporting one another can make. Every girl who ran, swam or played felt like a winner because of how hard she worked, cheered and celebrated. This was a successful year for Girls Grammar sport with more than 870 girls participating across eighteen different sports. BGGS won ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS EMMA ANDERSON (12W) AND LAUREN TAM (12O), CAPTAINS This year’s results from the QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics competition were exceptional with BGGS winning a record five premierships — our most successful season! Our D(i) and D(ii) teams led the way by placing first and second respectively. Our young guns, the Year 8 girls, shone through with our 8(ii) team placing first and 8(iii) team placing second. With only 0.37 point difference, our 8(i) team came a close second to Clayfield College. After lunch the B and C grade girls won the premiership once more. Competition for the A and Open teams was very tough with girls competing against nationally ranked gymnasts. The girls gave it their all with A grade coming fourth and the Open team coming fifth.

Well done to all our gymnasts for training so hard throughout the season; their hard work was reflected in the results achieved on the day. Special congratulations go to Maddison Facey (8G) who received an almost unattainable perfect score on bars and Harper Mcllroy (8W) for a perfect score on beam. We thank our wonderful coaches for their fantastic support and encouragement throughout the season and our head coach and coordinator Mrs Robbins for her tireless work and commitment to making our season so enjoyable, successful and fun. The Girls Grammar spirit was evident on the day with the our team of more than fifty gymnasts — the largest competing. The support from the sea of blue in the stands was overwhelming. ■
