An important part of our study this year has focused on the nature and extent of conflict in the twentietlt century, particularly as it relates to Australia and the Middle East Learning from past failures equips new generations to free the world of the vice of yesterday so that the fLill promise of tomorrow can be embraced

On any given day, I may leave a Modern History class with a sense of empowerment. disgust or a renewed belief in humanity; it is the emotional impact of this subject that is truly unique. This has allowed me to feel more keenly the horror of the Nazi Holocaust. the depravity of the Cold War and the uplifting dreams of the American Civil Rights Movement

Study of Religion allows me to examine the significant role religion plays internationally in people's lives and cultures. I thoroughly enjoy this subject as religion. religious beliefs and religious history is integral in shaping cultures. The breadth of topics covered provides me with a balanced and academic perspective on current issues such as church-state relations, war and internal conflicts and gay marriage. This subject has challenged and changed my perspective on a number of current issues. highlighting to me the diversity and complexity of religion Year 12 Study of Religion this year has provided us with a wide variety of challenging experiences - all the way from hands-on field studies to individual library and computer based reSearc1^71n Semester I, the Ritual Unit took us to the Chung Tian Buddhist Temple at Priestdale and the Masjid al Farooq Islamic Mosque at Kuraby to gain first-hand experience and information for our comparative study of Buddhist Meditation and Islamic Prayer Our study of ritual in the local community presented us with the opportunity for individual visits to local places of worship. both to observe and to interview religious leaders and members of their congregations. Semester 2 took us into the world of the big questions underpinning the age-old human search for the meaning - questions of origins, identity and destiny. These units of study have challenged us to think more deeply and introduced us to materials and insights from a range of academic disciplines, philosophies and religious experiences. YEAR 11 STUDENT

Year 11 Ancient History has really extended our knowledge of challenging and fascinating topic areas such as. religion and civilizations. We have gained an insight into many aspects of ancient societies whose contributions are crucial to our understanding of modern times. A visit to The University of Queensland's R. D Milns Antiquity Museum has broadened our understanding of ancient artefacts and our overall knowledge of the ancient world
