APOLLO CLUB
Apollo Club allowed us to explore issues and ideas through reading specific books chosen by Year 12 students from both Grammar and Girls Grammar This Year 12 club meets a few times each term for the distribution of books. which is usually accompanied by food and an afternoon discussing the chosen book Each book had its own unique messages. The discussions were insightful and engaging, and always extended into broader areas such as philosophy, gender inequality, freedom of religion. politics and social hierarchy. which encouraged us all to present our opinions. This year. we focused on three novels Night is a tragic first-person account of a Jewish boy who witnesses his family being torn apart during Nazi Germany; The HandmaidS 7:31e is a dystopian novel exploring the role of females in an oppressive future; and The formhg is a collection of seventeen short stories which explores the concept of turning. towards or away from the past. it was simply a wonderful opportunity to hear other people's perspectives on different issues.
