The students who participated in the Aviation Challenge - Mach 111 programme also had a great time training to be pilots and RIOs in amazing flight simulators. Fellcia Su and her American pilot won Top Gun. which is awarded to the winner of a dogfight between all teams in the Mach 111 programme that week. The culmination of this programme was to commando crawl through a forest at night to rescue an officer and return him to safety. all without being detected by the enemy. Many scrapes and bruises were collected during this pursuit but all were worn with pride

The following week we travelled around America. to Orlando, Washington DC and San Francisco. One of the highlights for me was watching the Fourth of July fireworks over San Francisco Bay from a kayak The return to Australia was bittersweet. We felt older. wiser and more skilled than we were when we left. but we were sad that the trip was over and were already missing the new friends that we had made at Space Camp
