Over the course of Semester I this year, Year 12 Accounting students were given the opportunity to undertake a university subject at the Queensland University of Technology. The OUT Accounting in High Schools Programme offers Year 12 Accounting students the opportunity to complete a first year Accounting subject while still at school. Erin Bonney (12E), Pui Chi Cheung (12H), Alexa Fong (12H), Aishlin Greig (12B) and Elizabeth Harda (12W) all participated in the programme. it was a great experience as students were able to attend lectures and sit exams with the university level students' The real-world learning experience provided the girls with a better idea of tertiary life. All preparation and study had to be done outside of school class hours and in addition to senior school Accounting work. in order to prepare for the exams, girls held group study sessions at lunch and shared pizza. They also worked in groups to complete a 'practice set' which was a complete set of records for a business. As they completed a university subject while still at school, the students all receive an extra bonus rank towards their OP calculation for some universities, which was an added incentive to participate in the programme. Four girls achieved either a 5 or 6 for this university subject and Elizabeth Harcla excelled by achieving a 7.
