cohesion, as the tougher opposition offered challenging games. The Grammar girls all played wonderfully during the competition and their hard work reflected in the results. The Open team placed third in the Open Honours Division and the Senior A team placed eleventh in Open Honours Division two. Participation in the Australian Schools Cup in Melbourne in December was another opportunity for the players to hone their skills and take their game to another level. The season could not have been successful, without the wonderful coaching provided to all teams by our knowledgeable and experienced coaching staff. Without Mrs Kiolle’s organisational leadership, the season would not have been possible. Jessica Pattison (12G) CAPTAIN Miss Emily Young (2006). Both of these teams should be commended on their fantastic efforts. To cap off the very successful water polo season, both the water polo players and swimmers concluded their seasons with the annual Aquatics dinner. The dinner was a night of great success with the prestigious Debbie Handley Award being shared amongst two elite players from the U15 team, Francesca Duke (10W) and Jade Yarbrough (10O). The outstanding success recognised on the night from all age groups once again highlighted the tremendous depth of talent within Girls Grammar Water Polo. Peta Masters (12W) CAPTAIN Water Polo

Tennis seasons at Girls Grammar consistently showcase our depth of talent and the sportsmanship of the players. The Tennis team of 2007, headed by the new co-ordinator Dr Jenkins, showed itself to be no exception. With a high standard set during the trials in April, the season was set to be successful from the start. The training sessions throughout Term II developed the skills and match play of the girls, which lifted everyone’s expectations of the season. By Term III, players were optimistic and excited about the fixtures, and a

Record-breaking Season
The Touch squad of 2007 was the strongest in Girls Grammar history. This level of success is a reflection of the team’s constant enthusiasm and dedication. Although a relatively new sport at the School, there were over 100 girls playing in eight teams. From the near zero temperatures endured during the game against Somerville House, the spirit of the squad was indomitable. All girls demonstrated a strong sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship by persevering through hardship, loss and victory. The shouts of the School war cry could always be heard at the conclusion of every match despite the outcome. The squad had a great start to 2007 with every team recording a Ipswich Girls Grammar to the dustbowl conditions against

team who performed exceptionally well at the State championships held on the Gold Coast in December and achieved a well deserved bronze medal under the guidance of their knowledgeable head coach, Mrs Anna Corbin (nee Moore, 2000). Similarly to cap off the end of the season, the U16s also achieved an outstanding third place at their State championships held in North Queensland in April. The girls had an excellent week and were lucky to experience the coaching of their previous Water Polo captain,
October to March. Of the fifteen teams entered in the competition, a record-breaking twelve teams qualified for the semi-finals with two teams from the U13, 14 and 18 age groups and three teams from both the U15 and 16 Year age groups. With the U13As going on to qualify for the Grand Finals, against rival All Hallows, a very close and exciting game was fought and despite losing by a goal in the dying minutes of the game, they must be congratulated for achieving a very commendable second place.
