A Students Perspective…
After weeks of hard work, including rehearsals, tutorials and lessons, the girls and staff presented a magnificent performance which was enjoyed by the large audience at City Hall. It featured music from well-known musicals and opera, including, Wicked, Westside Story, Lakme, Rodeo, Thais, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Tannhauser and Carmen . This unique selection of music was greatly appreciated by both performers and audience. The concert began with There’s No Business Like Show Business , with girls scattered around through the hall dancing and interacting with the audience while the Big Band and the Community Choir performed on stage. It was an exhilarating start to a fantastic evening of amazing talent, impressive musicality and infectious enthusiasm.
Highlights included solos from Harriet Straker (11M) – Meditation by Massenet , Julia Colwill (12G) – Poor Wandering One from Gilbert and Sullivan Selection , Hannah Cameron (11B) Defying Gravity , Susannah Plant (12E) – My Favourite Things from The Sound of Music and Katherine Johnson’s (11W) outstanding tap dance to Singing in the Rain . However, the biggest ‘crowd-pleaser’ of the evening was Chamber Singers’ rendition of Popular with a guest appearance from Mr Dale who watched with satisfaction as Harriet Straker’s untidy uniform was transformed by the Choir into that of a model student! Overall a fantastic night was had by all and congratulations must go to all the performers and staff for their enormous effort. Felicity Martin (11O)
