Drought and Dying Land
Out West on a cattle station Of red gums and red sand, There’s nothing but the sight now Of drought and dying land. There’s a gaping hole across the earth Where the water used to flow, And the moans of dying cattle With no where left to go. A dry and barren landscape All green and life long faded now, There’s just a man who stands alone And ignores the sweat upon his brow. He stands among the dead weed And looks over the brittle ground, Perhaps searching for some hope there But there’s no hope to be found. And every day he trudges back He lets his blue eyes skyward roam, But it’s only ever dust clouds That shade the sun on his long walk home. Sabina Myers (9M)
A Heart for Earth
Humans cut the big old pine And dig up homes of mice The world is slowly dying Unable to continue its life.
I stand on the side I watch and listen
How the animals run and hide Away from cold hearted humans
I watch my lovely world Ancient and fair I know its life is ending Doesn’t anyone care? Tiffany Chih (11R)
