Water Polo is a sport growing in popularity at the School each year. Since it was introduced competitively at Brisbane Girls Grammar School in 1976, it has now grown to become one of the largest sports this School offers. There are many reasons for this but the one which is probably the most important and positive is the strong bonds and friendships that are formed by being part of a Grammar team. Water Polo is the first and last sport available for girls to play during their time at the School. Girls still in Year 7 come to trial and experience their first encounter with the team spirit and professional approach of Grammar sport. Those 39 girls who are selected in their first Grammar teams are given a special introduction to the pivotal friendships and bonds that will stay with them throughout their time at Grammar. As the season runs across two academic years, Water Polo provides the opportunity for girls in Year 12 to continue playing the sport after they have finished school. This not only encourages girls to continue playing a sport which they love, but also allows the girls to maintain contact with their team mates who have become, in many cases, their closest friends. The friendships that are developed through Water Polo are vital to the game itself. Water polo is very much a team sport and each player must trust her team mates to save the goal, score the goal, or pass the perfect pass when they are in the open. This cohesive and supportive atmosphere transfers to the classroom where students work together productively.

In 2005, this camaraderie was extended to include the swimmers and their families at the inaugural Aquatics Camp and Dinner. As these sports complement each other, it is not uncommon for many girls to participate in both. Therefore, it was logical to combine these events. The increase in numbers made the camp and the dinner even more enjoyable, and benefited both sports by increasing their mutual support. Water Polo would not be where it is today without the support and dedication of the coaches who are usually past students. However, special thanks must go to our Co-ordinator, Mrs Moore, whose dedication and relentless efforts are the backbone
