Once again Grammar gave players, regardless of their hockey experience and skill, the opportunity to represent the School in a club competition. The three teams, J2, J5 and Intermediate, made Grammar proud not only by representing their School admirably but also through their good sportsmanship. Skill and teamwork on the hockey field resulted in some solid performances with the J5 and Intermediate teams finishing fifth and eighth respectively. Considering this was their first season for many of the players, these are pleasing and encouraging results. The J2 team displayed great persistence and narrowly missed a place in the Grand Final after a truly successful season. A Grammar team was entered into the Medibank Private Cup, a State-wide schoolgirls’ hockey knockout competition and was successful in making it to the State Finals. As regional winners, the Grammar team competed against teams from all around Queensland and must be commended on this outstanding achievement. A special thank you must go to Ms Johnston and all of the dedicated coaches for making this season possible. Emma Douglas (12) & Emily McRae (12B) CAPTAINS
Nil sine hockey
The 2005 Grammar Hockey players consistently demonstrated determination, hard work, enthusiasm and a keen Grammar Spirit. It was a combination of these attributes that led us to one of the most successful seasons Grammar Hockey has ever seen. This was reflected in the QGSSSA results. The Year 8s’ first season was one of bonding and enjoyment and with a third placing. Throughout the season they never failed to display their newly found Grammar spirit and enthusiasm. The Year 9, Year 10 and Senior A teams all must be congratulated on placing first in their respective competitions. The Year 9s proved anything was possible by defeating long term rivals Moreton Bay College and attaining an undefeated premiership. Furthermore, the Year 10s’ ability to work successfully as a team proved once again a valuable asset. Undefeated premiers, the Senior As displayed great skill and determination throughout the season. The Senior B team showed great improvement and were placed second in their competition, while the determination and hard work of the Open team resulted in a well-deserved third place. Special mention must go to the prolific goal scorers of the season. Vy Dinh (11B), Senior A, and Brodie Grant-Taylor (9M) each scored twelve goals for their teams this season, and Sally Fry (10H) contributed ten goals.
Continuing the proud tradition
2005 has proven to be yet another successful and enjoyable year for Grammar netballers. Grammar fielded 16 teams in the QGSSSA competition, making netball one of the largest sports Grammar has to offer. All girls produced outstanding performances, commitment and, above all, School spirit as they took to the court in their blue and white uniforms.
After intensive training in Term Two, all Grammar netballers were ready to demonstrate their newly honed abilities on court with thanks to their coaches. The season has been very successful with 13 out of the 16 teams placing first or second in the QGSSSA competition. As is the tradition of Grammar netball, the Open team began their season by competing in the Vicki Wilson Cup Knockout Competition. Unfortunately the girls were unable to defeat the talented Sandgate team in the second round. All players, however, must be commended on their sportsmanship and camaraderie. The Saturday morning fixtures were exciting and intense. It was a great opportunity for the Year 8s to experience Grammar netball, acquiring even more School pride and spirit. In keeping with the tradition, the morning tea provided by the netballers was again a great success! As Captains for 2005, we are very grateful that we have been fortunate to lead the Grammar netball community. We would like to thank all netballers for a positive attitude and committed dedication throughout
the season and we wish future teams the best of luck. Carly Albiez (12L) & Beth O’Sullivan (12M) CAPTAINS
