The Cross Country team also establishes a foundation In terms of fitness, competitiveness and teamwork for many other sports at Grammar. For example, man hockey players, rowers, gymnasts, netballers, as well as track and field athletes train or run cross country to build up and maintain fitness levels throughout the Year. All the sporting teams, as well as the individuals, benefit from this dedication and demonstration of School spirit, and this was never more obvious than when the athletics season and its aGSSSA competition came around

ATH LE TI C S The 2003 Athletics season began with the popular Inter house competition, which was held at ANZ Stadium on 12 August. The day was filled with outstanding athletic performa n ces. excite in en t a rid enthusiasm, which all helped to create a spirited atmosphere Overall Champion Athlete was awarded to Georgina Porter. Demonstrating both talent and versatility, Georgina gained first place in her four individual events. Strong performa rices from Beanla rid House students won both the Individual Events Cup and the England Cup for Relays for the Second Consecutive Year The University of aueensland meets provided an opportunity for the newly selected squad to display their school spirit whilst striving for personal best performances. All the track and field athletes strove together strengthening team spirit and camaraderie. To top off a very impressive and consistent season, Sarah Witson IYear 81 was awarded the Junior Grand Prix Athlete of the super six series at the last Ua meet At the Metropolitan North Regional Championships, which were held at Nudgee College on 9 and 10 September, Grammar won the Regional Champion Girls School Pennant and twenty-eight girls were selected to compete at the Queensland Championships

The months of commitment and dedication came down to one day. aGSSSA Athletics was held on 17 October and, although the weather was not ideal, the big day proved to be the best of the season. The team took on the rival schools with confidence and the desire and will to win. displaying consistent ept in of track and field events to win The Stephens Aggregate Cup for the second consecutive year From the 108 events, Brisbane Girls Grammar achieved 27 first, 22 second, and 26 third places. On the track we were strong as usual, placing in all twenty loom races and winning five of the ten relays. However, without the efforts of the field athletes who earned 352 of the School's 851 points, the day would not have had such a wonderful level of success. Age group results show the depth of talent and the consistency of effort 13.14,15 and 16 years came second and 17 Years first. The 2003 athletics season has been Yet another successful one for the girls in the royal blue. This would not have been possible without the training, teamwork, and the inspiration of the dedicated coaches who believed in every member of the team
