M ACKAY TH E CU LTU RE
This Year I was amazed to find myself the Captain of a spirited House full of energetic and dedicated Angels. Mackay House in 2003 was a force to be reckoned with as we slowly but surely climbed the ladder in the many Inter house events. We may remain at the lower end in terms of results, but when it comes to cheering, costumes and enjoyment, there is no doubt that the Mackay Angels always come out on top The Mackay House Party was the first event of the year, which gave all the girls the opportunity to show what their House meant to them. it was an extremely successful day with an amazing array of enthusiastic and creative Iy dressed girls Even the Year 85, despite having only just arrived, got straight into the spirit of things and impressed us all with their confidence and new found pride for their House. Soon after we found ourselves encouraging our peers as they swam for our House at Chandler Aquatic Centre in the Inter house Swim ming Ca rnival. U nfortu nately, ou r wings didn't carry us far in the pool but the smiles and laughter of the day followed by some hilarious photos proved that having fun was more important to the Mackay Angels than winning The next event on our calendar was the inter house Drama Competition, which saw some wonderful performances from girls in all Year levels. This Year Mackay saw the comical journey of Robin Hood and his merry men in tights as they fought the evil Sheriff of Rotting ham and Prince John. It was a wonderful success thanks to our Drama Captains, Sophie Berzins and Kathryn Barr and hila rious some performances from all cast members. Our spirit and enthusiasm never faltered as we continued to shine in the inter house Cross Country Competition, where we

achieved a well-earned fifth place. The day's success was owed to every one of the girls who ran, skipped, walked or even tied their legs together, once again proving that Mackay girls always have fun In amongst everything else, we managed to eat a lot of food with several breakfasts full of chocolate croissants and muffins. MY personal favourites were the Year 12 chocolate breakfasts which, thanks to Mr Pincott, left a lot of us feeling like we needed another Inter house event to burn off those extra calories. Thankful Iy. there is always something to look forward to at Brisbane Girls Grammar School and in Term 111, the Mackay Angels blitzed the field in the Inter house Athletics Competition. Whether it was running, jumping, throwing or for some, falling, the day was a blast. We cheered on our fellow Angels with pride and managed to come fifth overall on the day. Congratulations must go to all the girls especially A1ix Vann in Year 12 and Cecily Baring-Gould in Year 9, who were both awarded third in the Overall Championships for their age groups Finally, as I write, rehearsals for the Interhouse Choral Competition are under way. The girls are planning to give ABBA and the other Houses some tough rivalry with their performance of Mommo Mio. Captains Lucy Hall and Jixin Xing have already done an amazing job fine-tuning our vocal chords
Mrs Colwill who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help make Mackay House what it is. Also to Mr Pincott and the Year 12 House Group who were always willing to support and help whenever they could. MY biggest thank You must go to my Vice House Captain, Kate Harries, who stood by me throughout the Year with absolute dedication and enthusiasm. Finally, to all the Angels who have helped Mackay achieve great things and up hold our reputation as the most spirited House at Brisbane Girls Grammar School, good luck to You and may Your Years in Mackay House be as enjoyable and rewarding as mine Katherine Hogarth House Captain
