PERFORMANCE

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

The Gala is the Music Department's annual showcase performance, and this Year the theme celebrated the diverse cultures of the globe with the central concept of What a Wonderful World As a break from the Sunday afternoon tradition, the Gala was held on a Friday night, which added a great sense of occasion to the event. The Big Band (with massed percussion), Grammar Singers, Chamber Singers, Massed Choir, Symphonic Winds, Chamber Orchestra and Symphony effort into weeks of Orchestra put enormous rehearsals that CUIminated in a truly spectacular and beneficial performance. From the potent and percussive introduction to the rockin' final medley of JOY to the World, the Gala Concert was an event to remember The fabulous work of the presenters, Gabriella Ritchie and Kate Hogarth, complimented the professional standard of the evening. The student soloists also contributed mightily to the spirit and atmosphere of the event, with admirable performa rices from Denise Ch eu rig, Natalie Schimpf. Clare Applegarth, Angela Sheu, Francesca Hiew and Kristy Marshall Thanks must go to the many volunteers from the ever-enthusiastic M usic Su pport G rou p, who organised all of the decorations, ticket sales and front-of- house arra rigements. Simila rly, the crew must be coinmended on the backstage smoothest stage changes ever seen at a Brisbane Girls Grammar School Gala. it is the combined effort of so many that really makes this event a special one for all of the girls involved. With the support of so many caring and involved parents and staff, the girls can enjoy not only the performance opportunity but also feel that all of the effort they have put into the preparation for the event has been appreciated.
