COMMUNITY F ORM AL

By 8.00pm on Friday 27 June, the Seniors of 2003 had packed into the foyer of the Plaza Terrace Room of the Convention centre, dressed up to the nines and doubly excited by the prospect of the holidays weaved following their night of nights. Waiters through the elegant crowd of girls, parents and teachers, and the excitement was palpable. This was the event we had been anticipating all term, through stand dress shopping, practise hair appointments, down and gruelling exams. The theme of the night had been carefully steeped in mystery since as early as first term, only to be revealed at Year Assembly that same day. This left everyone to ponder, for a few hours, what a Formal inspired by the rich culture of renaissance Venice and the traditional Venetian Carnivale would be like. BY 830pm, the wait was over and all was revealed Disengaging themselves from the crowd in the foyer, the girls and their partners made the walk down the red carpet and entered the Plaza Terrace Room to enjoy a night of good food, dancing, fortune telling, balloons, live entertainment and a DJ who knew his stuff. More importantly, the Formal was a chance to spend a beautiful night surrounded by the friends we have spent five Years growing and learning with. Events such as this don't come around very often and everyone made the most of it Each girl was beautiful, shimmering in silk and satin draped and cut in every way jinaginable, hair restrained or set loose with multitudes of hairpins and product, and feet proudly bearing a stunning variation on the stiletto heel. The transformation, from the weary schoolgirl she had been just hours earlier into an elegant, Young lady was complete. Thanks must go to Mrs Bell and Miss James on from the Board for their continued support of the Formal, and to all the staff and parents who attended the Pre-formal event and the Formal itself. Many thanks also to Mrs MCConaghy who spent countless hours with the Formal Committee organising the event Finally, the Formal would hardly be possible without the girls, whose energy and enjoyment on the night made it one to remember.
