Co- CURRICULAR

THEATRE SPORTS 2002 brought about the reintroduction of theatres ports to the Brisbane Girls Grammar School co- curricular programme. This Year the activity has encouraged a greater number of participants to attend the weekly workshops and those students selected to be part of a Secondary School Theatres ports Competition have developed in their improvisation and presentation skills in May 2003 the theatres ports training season began with great enthusiasm as students were invited to attend a workshop run by Mr Daniel Cordeaux. Mr Cordeaux has international recognition for his involvement in competitive theatres ports and willingly passed on a great deal of his knowledge to the girls in an afternoon of laughter, energy and creativity On 19 and 20 August twelve students represented Brisbane Girls Grammar Schoo in the annual Youth Theatres ports Festival. The night was filled with imaginative and comical presentations. The participants were assessed on their dramatic technique, story line development and the entertainment value of their scene. The students performed with energy and displayed admirable teamwork skills. Each Year the Brisbane Girls Grammar School students go from strength to strength in this competition and are realising their potential in this light hearted, fast paced dramatic activity Miss Emma Lauman Co- ordinator won

LEUKAEMIA COMMITTEE The Kirsten Jack Memorial Leukaemia Committee was formed when Kirsten Jack, a student at Brisbane Girls Grammar School, died of Ieukaemia in 1977. in her memory. her friends formed the Leukaemia Committee to raise money for research into the prevention of and cure for Ieukaemia. Since then the group has had an active role in improving the quality of life of local Ieukaemia sufferers. This Year, our fundraising efforts began with selling roses for Valentine's Day. Later in first term, we hosted the Inter-house Drama Festival, and received many generous donations. In Term 11, our main endeavour was to hold a Mother's Day stall on the days leading up to Mothers' Day. We raised a great sum of money, and ended Semester I as one of the most profitable charities in the School. Semester 11 has been equally rewarding, with numerous fundraising activities. These have included selling 1011ies at inter house Athletics and a very successful raffle on Open Day. We then turned to the Year lis, whose efforts in Term N signify the handover of leadership responsibilities. We are confident that in their hands, the Leukaemia Committee will continue to thrive. Special thanks must go to Ms Forster and Miss O'Suilivan the co- ordinators and backbone of the Leukaemia Committee, for their efforts. We are also indebted to Miss Nardi, Co- ordinator of Charities, and Mrs Bell for their support and organisation
