This Year Brisbane Girls Grammar School entered fourteen teams in the Queensland Debating Union Schools' Competition with eight of these teams successfully arguing their way to the Final rounds. These rounds always provide an additional challenge to debaters as they are 'knock-out' competitions and the standard of debate is extremely high. Our most successful teams were Year 9111 - Claire Blenkin, Katherine Darch, Emma Di Marco, Elizabeth Stafford and Hannah Statham - who reached the Quarter Finals and our Year 12 team - Jocelyn Knight, Elise Adams, Hannah Douglas, Prue Healey and Ajice Walker - who won their Grand Final against Marymount College in a unanimous decision. This team was awarded a Team trophy, individual PIaques and a cheque for $200 for the School Not only are all our enthusiastic debaters to be congratulated for their fine efforts, I wish to acknowledge the hard work of our Debating Captain, Aishwarya Singh and the coaches - staff and Old Girls - who helped prepare the teams throughout the Year. As well, at the Debating Dinner, the students made special mention of their 'Debating' parents who, each season, form the major audience for the competitors and provide very positive support and those other students who, in the Finals' phase of the competition, provide an appreciative cheer squad twithout the cheering) Throughout the season, our debaters acquitted themselves with dignity and quiet good humour. As well, our girls have clearly demonstrated terrific team work, mental agility. analytical skills, the ability to understand other points of view and to speak confidently in a public forum. Congratulations to them all! Miss Felicity Williams Co- ordinator

GECO This Year has been a very successful one for the Grain in a r Environ mental Conservation Organisation. Early in the year we held a Tidiest House competition at the Swimming Carnival, in conjunction with Clean Up Australia Day. Open Night in August saw GECO raise funds by handing out green ribbons and requesting small donations, and in turn raising awareness within the School and external communities about our alms as an enviro nin e ntal awa reness g rou p. Fu rids
collected over past Years have amounted to a sizable sum, $1000 of which will be donated to Planet Arc as Grammar's contribution to the environment. Term N will hopefully be as successful for GECO as the past semester, as we plan to launch some new initiatives. On behalf of the School I would like to thank all involved for helping GECO achieve its goals and hope for Your continuing support next Year Emily Van Opdenbosch
