Wrongly Accused Jack felt something was not quite right the minute he stepped off the plane The security guard was eyeing him suspiciously. Where was the arrivals sign. He was g ad to be home after the fourteen-hour flight from Heathrow. He hurried to collect his luggage and was waiting at the conveyer belt when suddenly a low voice said, "Excuse me, could we have a word?" With alarm Jack looked around to find two huge security guards, one of whom he had seen earlier, coming towards him. Before he could answer their question, they had grabbed his shoulders and were steering him away Neither said anything as they took him down a corridor towards a door marked Private. Jack began to feel nervous, the palms of his hands were sweating and he loosened his collar hoping it made him look more relaxed than he felt "Sit down, " said the security guard pointing to a chair Jack wasjust about to ask what was happening when the two guards left the room closing the door sharply behind them. He waited in silence suspecting he was being watched, or was that just what happened in movies. After a while two men entered the room "Excuse me, but why. ..." Jack began, but he never got the chance to finish "You know very well why You are here. " said the man sitting across from him "So where have You hidden them?" asked the other "Hidden what?" asked Jack, dumbly "Don't play stupid. We know You've got them. " Jack was now beginning to get worried. What was all this about and why was t happening to him? "Listen, we have a man fitting Your exact description who we believe has been smuggling diamonds from South Africa via London. " "Well, I'm not ... I didn't': Jack stumbled "if You won't co-operate I'm going to have to arrest You on suspicion of diamond smuggling. " At that moment another man came in, looking flushed and out of breathe "Sir!" he puffed, " We got him, we found the guy with the diamonds. " "What? So ..." he said pointing to Jack "No. it's not him. " For a moment it looked like there was going to be a row, but the officers kept their cool and, after an eXchange of angry, frustrated glares, Jack was told there must have been some mistake and that he was free to go. He thought of complaining about the way he'd been treated but decided not to bother. He was shown the way out and a taxi was co led for him. Everyone was suddenly being so polite, were they afraid he'd sue? He chuckled inwardly to himself Once in the taxi he let out a sigh of relief. What a great plan that decoy was, he thought with satisfaction. The diamonds were safe and the police wouldn't find out until much later that all they had were fakes a H Itham
