LANGUAGE AND LITERACIES

Throughout the week that followed, all students from Years 8 to 12 were involved In class-run activities. as audience members, or workshop attendees. Year 9 English students studying A Bridge to Wisemon's Cove and Touch Me were fortunate to have first-hand contact and conversations with celebra ted a u thor, James Moloney. To expand on a previous unit of work, the Aurealis Award winner, Ms Kim Wilkins, intrigued all Year 9 students in an entertaining and energetic presentation on the craft of writing mystery and fantasy stories Year 10 English students, charged with the task of producing a short story as part of their assessment for the term, were appreciative of the insights shared by Arithony Eaton, winner of the West Australian Premier's Award for Young Adult Fiction in 2000. He revealed many of his secrets for successful and imaginative writing to help our aspiring writers Academics from the University of Queensland provided excellent curriculum enrichment and foundations in units being studied by Senior students during the term. Dr Liz Ferrier presented lively and valuable insights for the Year 12 students in her informed and informative sessions on advertising and the advertising industry. Dr Frances Bonner delivered fascinating lectures on discourses of Australian identity that are operating in contemporary culture, as part of the focus of a Year 11 Unit_on Representations of Australian Identity. Students benefited from the level of academic expertise and insights in these presentations.
