Water Polo The 2001/02 BGGS water polo season was a specia one for Grammar water 00 0 as it marked the club's twenty-fifth Year of involvement in the Brisbane Water Polo Competition. To commemorate this outstanding achievement, a badge was specifically designed. and has been worn with pride by many members of the Grammar wa polo community It was also a memorable season for the club, as we achieved record success Under the leadership and guidance of head coach, Scott Schweickle, the season was not only successful within the club, but also outside the club, with many girls representing their region, Queensland, and Australia. The success of a schoolgirls' club such as ours is the resu t of many factors a culture of striving for excellence, the number of past students returning as coaches; specialized training for all coaches under the tutelage of a head coach and a staff co-ordinator; commitment by students and parents; and sustained organizational and philosophical support at school level Eleven teams represented the School in the Brisbane Water Polo Club Competition. Trials were underway in early September 2001 for all age groups. We had the privilege o introducing the new Under 135, then in grade seven at their respective primary schools, to their first taste of the Grammar spirit so prominentin this sport. The welcome barbecue provided an enjoyable occasion. where players and parents experienced a spirited gathering that established club spirit for the season, which began in Term Four 2001 w'th fixtures running through until the end of term one this year Grammar water polo players showed their dominance placing highly in each division at the end of fixtures. Ten of the eleven teams made the semi-finals, with seven team making grand finals and four teams convincing Iy winning premierships. This was a record in terms of both finalists and premierships, making this Grammar's most successf season ever. The winning teams were U13A, U14A, U14B and U18A. After this very eventful and exciting finals' day, BGGS celebrated becoming the most successful Junior club in Brisbane and Queensland at the annual end of season d'riner, held at the Carton Crest This Year, Girls Grammar once again entered two teams in the Queensland Secondary Schoo s Knockout Competition. Both the Open and U15 remained undefeated throughout their respective tournaments. Coincidentally. both teams also had the same impressive total of only three goals scored against them throughout the entirety of the competition, confirming Grammar water polo's dominance within Queensland schools. Th's is the first t me that any one school has managed to win both divisions in the same year, so congratulations to those girls involved. A special thank You must also go to the coaches of these teams: Carolyn Johnson, 10d'e Taylor and Anna Moore. all "Old Girls':
