Tennis at Grammar in 2002 has not only been successful, but it has also been fun, hard work and full of team spirit. At the beginning of the season, there was some scepticism as to what would unfold. as the Year 2001 had ended with a perfect result of seven from seven premierships for Grammar, and this was going to be a hard act to follow. But with the inaugural tennis camp incorporated as part of the training program, the start of the School tournament, and the positive and determined attitude shown by all girls, the season began Mid-May saw the tennis squad escaping from the cold and dismal winter in Brisbane to the relaxation of Twin Waters Resort at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast The tennis camp enabled the girls to become fit for the tennis season. relax and unwind by the beach and indulge in some of the other resort activities. The camp created a strong bond between all Year levels that would remain unbroken as the aGSSSA season commenced. Mr Roland Butnoris and Mrs Judith But noris iparents of 2002 Tennis Captainj were remarkable supervisors assisting in making the camp possible

After intensive training throughout second term, the girls were ready to tackle the opposition. The very first match of aGSSSA saw all teams nearly being beaten; not simply by the St Peter's opposition but also by the weather. The rain clouds held off just long enough to see all teams finally victorious and eager to move on to the next round. The match between Grammar and St Hilda's was a display of determination and true teamwork. A special mention must be made to Jillian Stack and Edwina George who stayed to support the Open team into the very late, and extremely cold. hours of Friday night Such displays of support and camaraderie were shown throughout the season, and were especially evident when Grammar played Clayfield College. For many teams this was to be their toughest match. it required the effort of all to play their best and to support their other team members every step of the way. Although some teams were defeated by Clayfield, it was obvious that Grammar excelled in team spirit and in sportsmanship and every girl involved in tennis should be proud of her achievements Effort encompasses three CS and Grammar tennis exhibits these. Commitment, to train and to stand by every team member, was clearly evident n our two additional teams in 2002.
