Annabel was not impressed
* I' ..
As she gazed down at the cast on her left leg she tried to look on the bright side knowing it would come off in two weeks. There was a time when she thought that watching television and reading all day would be heaven but now she dreaded the monotony of it all Four weeks ago. she had broken her leg whilst snowboardng near her home in Canada. And now. as her leg healed. she was convalescing with her father in Noosa. Australia. He lived on his own away from her and her mother in Canada She hadn't seen her father in eight years and although she had been looking forward to being with him, she knew she would miss spending the winter in her beloved snowy paradise. She could still feel the exhilaration of speeding down the slopes on her snowboard, the leisure activity that she greatly enjoyed Her dad had taken her to the beach to read her book and give her a change of scenery. As she glanced up from her book, she noticed someone carving up and down the surf in such a powerful way. She had never taken much notice before and realized that it looked a lot like snowboarding. She thought that with her expertise in snowboardng, she could easily transfer her skills to surfing. but then again, she would have to wait until her leg fully healed Three weeks later, her dad had to go to an important business meeting on a Sunday, so sent Annabel to spend the morning with his best friend, Steve, who was instructing at his surfing academy. Annabel sat there all morning intrigued with the poise and aggression of the surfers, her own love for the sport growing like a nurtured fire. Her leg was now completely healed so she was eager to learn the skills and thrills of the surfing lifestyle. After Steve had finished coaching, she approached him to ask if she could have beginner lessons. He agreed enthusiastically The next morning, she arrived at the beach ready to go. Steve was already there, beginner's board in hand. The whole day she desperately tried to catch a wave in the white wash but finally realised it would take more than a day to get the hang of it, even with many years of snowboarding experience Countless sessions later, when she was about to give up, she glimpsed behind her to see the wave that would give her the first ride of her life. She turned around, paddled, and, almost instinctively, jumped to her feet and rode all the way into the beach. Filled with excitement, she jumped off her board but lost her footing and fell awkwardly
