The whole proceedings were played out on the front pages of The Brisbane Courier and students were able to read the Board of Trustees'justification for the sacking, Miss Fewings' spirited reply, as well as varying perspectives from the catalyst Miss Sellers, parents and the general public. The focus question of the study'To what extent was the dismissal fair?' produced some heated yet informed debate from students who role-played an Industrial Commission hearing into the alleged 'unfair dismissal: The 1979 School Bus Accident was also a topic of investigation and one class was fortunate enough to have Mrs Sue Swayne, a former teacher from that time, come and speak to them about her memories of that tragedy. The Imbil Memorial Outdoor Education Centre and the Garden at BGGS have taken on new meaning for many of those students who heard her speak so personally and eloquently. The unit of work CUIminated in a visit to the One Teacher School at QUT, run by Mr Ginham Nimmo. All classes spent an enjoyable morning or afternoon 'back in time'learning about 'Good Manners:writing on slates, being drilled in the times-tables and even being reprimanded for the smallest of 'offences: Knowing and feeling something about our past has not only made the 125th celebration a much more meaningful experience for students but has provided them with the capacity to see endless possible futures for the School and themselves
Year 8 students visited the original school building in search of the elusive Foundation Stone laid by Sir Charles Lilley in February 1883. While the Stone has long since been buried, the beautiful ornate trowel could be admired in the Museum and copies of the original plan compared to the current usage of space. Students were delighted to learn that the dining room for the School's twenty-five boarders was originally the assembly area for the entire school - a venue used into the 1970s. Photographic studies revealed the evolution of the school uniform, the importance of sport and drama in the School's curriculum and the improvement in buildings and facilities. One of the most interesting case studies investigated by the Year 85 was the dramatic and very public dismissal of the School principal, Miss Eliza Fewings, in 1899
