MINDSHOP EXCELLENCE

On Thursday 22 August, six Year 11 girls, Alex Carter, Claire 0150n, Claire Cunning ham, Maria Theodoros, Aerlyn James and Gabrielle Tang, arrived at the Queensland Cricket Association in A1bion to participate in Mindshop Excellence, a program designed to help students prepare for the workforce. The purpose of the Mindshop Excellence Program is to learn and share skills, knowledge and experience. Over the five days we learnt team building and life skills as well as financial planning techniques. To begin with, we were taught different concepts and activities to help reach our goals in life. One question we were asked frequently was, ifyou had a magic wond, andyou didn't hove to worryobout the how or the costinvolved, what would you change? Our answers ranged from wanting to find a cure for cancer, to having a highly paid and highly respected job to being able to be fit without doing any exercise whatsoever. Our main goal during our five days was to work with and help an association called, Warehouse Cricket. Contrary to our belief this was not a group of people who played the game in sheds, but the largest group of non-professional cricket players in Australia. Our job was to research and develop a plan to allow Warehouse Cricket to finance a full-time administrator. We worked on strategies for four days, before we presented our recommendations and development plan to the executive board. During that time there were frequent breaks to take a visit down to the local cafe and other places, including the closest car retailers. After interviews with the executive board members, intensive research and the usual arguments, we developed a viable three-year plan to finance the administrator. This experience was extremely beneficial and over the five days we not only learned business and financial skills, but we also learned life skills, including tolerance, co-operation and cohesion.
