club sport
Our aim this year has been to unify the Grammar teams by improving the skill levels of the girls along with holding a number of social events. The purchase of three new Vagabond sailing boats, increase time on the water and rules sessions have certainly helped improve the overall quality of the girls' sailing. Socially we have had a number of events, including an evening with IPswich Grammar School, which was held at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. A naming and blessing of the new boats was held on the rigging lawn at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. Mr Peter Stubbington introduced the ceremony with a brief overview on the history of the naming and blessing of boats. This was followed by the senior girls naming the boats and Reverend A1an Dale christening and blessing each boat.
SAILING
Sinceits establishment in 1985, the Sailing Club has continued to grow and this year numbers forty sailors. This has allowed Girls Grammar to dominate the competition, participation wise. The task of organising the girls has been an arduous one, much helped by the organisation of our Sailing Coordinato Mr Barry Greatorex.

Naming ond blessing of new boots
This year the Sailing Club competed with six teams in the Interschool Teams Racing Championship. Thirteen other boys and girls schools also participated. All teams have shown remarkable improvement, partly because of the regular competitions but also because of the new boats, which have allowed for more intense and successful training sessions. Our thanks go to our two coaches, Julia Patterson and KatyToft, both past students At the end of third term our Senior and JuniorTeams competed in the Queensland State Teams Racing Championships held at the Noosa Yacht Club. In the Girls Championship, the JuniorTeam won the Championship with the Senior Girls coming a very close second. The Championship hinged on the last race between the two Grammar teams. It was a very close fought race with the Junior Teamjust winning. The following day the JuniorTeam competed in the Junior Championship and came a very close fourth. It is quite obvious that we senior girls have trained our juniors really well. One of our sailors, Anna Patterson (IOH) and her old sister Julia (Class of 1998) were selected to represent Australia at the 2000 420 Women's Sailing Championship, held at La Rochelle, France during July. The girls were very successful in gaining nineteenth position out of 54 teams. The BGGS Sailing Club has had a very successful year both with the quality of the teams and the addition of the new boats. We know that in 2001 the Club will continue to grow and compete successfully on the water
